New Music Coming Soon
Happy almost Spring!
Here we go. The countdown begins.
On April 17th, which is a New Moon in Aries and which spurs the ‘initiation of new, bold projects,’ I will release my first single, Blessing in Disguise. It’ll be the last song on the EP, but the first song released into the world. Because exactly how I enjoy reading magazines, I like to begin at the end :)
You’ve read about Blessing in Disguise before in these updates. The song itself was a massive undertaking to record. Matt (my recording engineer) initially told me that it was too long, that the melody of the first verse vanished after the chorus and where did it go, and that it needed shaping in general. He told me all of this gently, and had many solutions to offer, but it was still ego-puncturing nonetheless. I made the cuts though, trimmed the excess, and took his suggestions.
The vocal performances I gave went through multiple iterations, multiple visits to the studio, and sessions where I was met with tears, and quite surprisingly, the spirit of the man who gifted me a tiny Casio keyboard at age seven which initiated my lifelong soul connection to music. I was not expecting to be met by the spirit of a deceased father figure, but he was undoubtedly there and Matt patiently waited in the control booth while I had my moment to cry and remember Larry.
So this song is emotional. Without adjusting your receival of the song too much (because art is subjective and each listener will have their own interpretation,) I wanted the vocal qualities to represent my wise self, my inner teen, and my inner small child. I think that comes through really well.
The song starts off almost timidly, and ends in an orchestral-like quality that I hope will make your hairs stand on end.
And, with SO much AI out there gobbling up artistic spaces, it was important to me that you hear one or two buzzes off my guitar strings, that you hear my intake of breath throughout, and that you hear levels of human emotion in my vocal performance. Because ‘flaws’ are what make us real.
I’ll also leave you with the artwork for the Single, from concept to finished product. It’s different from the Album artwork that Jes made (which will be the artwork on my tote bags!) yet more specific to the song itself. I used the app Fiverr to locate an incredible new friend who brought my vision to life.
That’s all for now. As always, thank you for being on this journey with me! You’ll get more info soon on how to save the song to your streaming platforms, so you can hear it as soon as its out. Stay tuned!
